FINALLY FINISHED. The elevator inspector approved the repair. We still need the alarm inspection. The red tag on the permits was issued because Paul from Sievers had to be here to test the fire alarm system in person. He will be here on Monday April 10. All the remains now are a few small cosmetic odds and ends. 

I am not amused. 

Apr. 4. 20006: Here is what was needed to pass inspection. The wooden ceiling of the church had to be covered with drywall. This has now been done. I sure hope this is what had to be done - and that enough drywall was installed. The inspector is coming back on Thursday, April 6. He wanted to see the (1) Light added, (2) The hoistway had to be "capped", (3) some cement had to be chipped away from the shaft ladder to ensure a 4 inch clearance from the ladder to the wall, and (4) grout applied around the basement elevator floor. If this additional work passes, we can start using the elevator.

3 April 06... Electricians were back to install the light at the top of the shaft, per the inspector.  

April 4, 2006. Here's the narthex with the floor mats replaced and the one on the right trimmed to size. Looks like a good cleaning is in order.
